Emme Christie, M.Phil, Ph.D (ABD)

Emme is a queer and trans environmental activist-scholar who works along the contours of queerness and environmental identity. Emme is currently wrapping up their PhD (as a Fulbright Scholar) and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. As a critical environmental sociologist, Emme's research involves an inquiry into the formation of national and community-level environmental identities through mixed-methods surveys of environmental histories and present practices of environmental discourse and governance. Emme also does research and advocacy in health equity specifically as it impacts trans people as well as how LGBTQ+ peoples experience climate change and the environment. 


Emme is also an environmental, climate change, and human rights activist and a Director at the Jamaica Climate Change Youth Council

Shumaila Bhatti, MS, Ph.D

Dr. Bhatti is an environmental scientist studying digital media's role in public perception and participation in the context of environment and health from a justice-oriented lens. Through her research, teaching, and service, she aims at transformative change through the literacy of these socio-environmental systems. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at Virginia Tech and Director of the Center for Environmental Security under The Human Security Institute (THIS) in Pakistan. She got her Ph.D and MS (as a Fulbright Scholar) from the State University of New York, College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry, and her B.S. in Environmental Sciences from International Islamic University, Islamabad. 

Dr. Bhatti has successfully published five first-authored research papers in leading communication journals, delivered more than 24 presentations and invited talks, and contributed to five books.
